egg milkSign up for another round of our delicious egg and milk shares! Next week is the last week for the current share, so it’s time to sign up for our spring/summer subscription. Why get your eggs and milk from Farmers & Artisans?

Our farm fresh brown eggs, sold by the dozen or half dozen, come from pastured hens that have not been treated with either hormones or antibiotics. Their feed is non-GMO.

The milk, in gallons and half gallons, and now quarts, is from a herd of Jersey cows that are pastured and not treated with any hormones or antibiotics. What is Kombucha (from Bootleg Bucha)?

“Kombucha is a fermented tea that originated in East Asia over 2,000 years ago. It was known for healing properties and called the tea of immortality.

Our kombucha is made with a special blend of green and black teas. The tea is brewed, and then a SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast) is added on top of the tea, initiating the fermentation process. After a few weeks the fermented tea is flavored and kegged. The result is a healthy beverage that is slightly tart, and full of probiotics, amino acids and antioxidants.

The benefits of drinking kombucha include:
1.Digestion- Good for ulcers, heartburn, and overall digestion due to beneficial bacteria from probiotics.
2.Joint Care- Contains glucosamine, which increases synovial hyaluronic acid production. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for the lubrication and flexibility in joints. Also supports healthy collagen production.
3.Detoxification- Glucuronic acid is beneficial to the liver, it binds toxins and helps to excrete them.
4.Energy- Includes B vitamins that increase energy, while acetic acid and polyphenols boost the metabolism.

Daily intake of kombucha is recommended to begin at 6-8 oz. per day, either in the morning or after a meal throughout your day. As you begin to enjoy the detoxifying benefits of kombucha, it is recommended you drink plenty of water to help flush your system.  As your body and digestive system start to function at a more balanced level, you can increase the consumption of kombucha as much as you like. One of the great features of this beverage is that it not only has fantastic health benefits but tastes amazing too!”

Produce & Flower Share Sign up (5% discount if you sign up by Jan. 31!)

produce

We are enjoying the winter’s rest, but look forward to the flavors and colors of the upcoming produce season! Our produce shares offer a great variety of local fresh picked produce. Share pick ups start in June (date to be determined) and continue through early November.

This year we have decided to combine the vegetables and fruits in the weekly share pick-ups, and offer a full or partial option. Droughts, late freezes and wet springs have made meeting the demands of the fruit shares more difficult. We will continue to provide a very diverse, usable, and balanced variety of fresh and clean produce.

Emails are sent out weekly informing you of that week’s produce, including farm source, interesting produce information and recipes.

The produce is a mix of conventional, low spray, no spray and when possible, organic vegetables and fruits. Many of the farmers follow Cornell’s IPM guidelines. (Integrated Pest Management promotes safe, least-toxic solutions to minimize insects, plant diseases, weeds, and pesticide problems).

flowersChoice of pick up day is either Tuesdays or Thursdays, from 7 am to 7 pm. Flower pick up this season will be Tuesdays only.

We are offering a 5% discount off the total if you sign up by January 31. If the deposit is mailed, it must be post marked by January 31, to be eligible for the discount.

A 50% deposit is due to reserve your share, with the final balance due by May 15th. Please stop by or call us with any questions. You can also mail your form to us with your deposit.
